Genesis Engineering Solutions Celebrates Successful Launch of NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope

Last month NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launched at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, beginning its 3-month long halo orbit around the gravitational balance spot (Sun-Earth L2 Lagrange point) located about 1 million miles directly behind Earth away from the sun. Roman’s mission is to take photos of Earth-like planets in search of extraterrestrial beings or any signs of life throughout the universe. The telescope was named in honor of the first Chief Astronomer and female executive of NASA, Nancy Grace Roman, best known for her leading contributions on the Hubble Space Telescope project.

Launching 9 months ahead of schedule, the Roman journey (now in its second month of orbit) marked a significant milestone for Genesis Engineering Solutions, an aerospace and high-tech manufacturing firm based in Lanham, Maryland just outside of DC. Dr. Jay Bhaumik recently acquired the company in late 2025, bringing over 20 years of experience alongside Koti Venga, CEO of Genesis Engineering. Founded in 1993, the organization and its employees have supported NASA Goddard and some of the nation’s most important space missions for over three decades.

The Genesis team played a pivotal role specifically in manufacturing and supplying the electrical wiring systems that connect the spacecraft’s various components, including 1,018 separate harnesses comprising approximately 500 miles of cable for Roman’s ground-support, testing, and flight applications.

“A mission like Roman comes together through collaboration across many companies and teams, not the efforts of one organization alone,” said Dr. Jay Bhaumik, Chairman of Genesis Engineering Solutions. “We’re incredibly proud of the impact Genesis employees have made on this project.”

Roman’s scale and complexity required over 10 years of engineering, manufacturing, testing, problem-solving, and collaboration among thousands of people across NASA, industry partners, and suppliers. For the Genesis team, this launch marks the culmination of essential work performed largely behind the scenes.

“Space hardware leaves very little room for error. Every essential piece of the project matters,” Dr. Bhaumik said. “Some of the work that happens behind the scenes may never be fully visible to those watching the launch but is the most important to getting a spacecraft like Roman safely to the launch pad.”

The Roman Space Telescope launch serves as an example of the depth of experience Genesis employees bring to these efforts and the company’s continued commitment to advancing the future of space and aerospace technology.
